My name is Dave Painchaud. I'm a composer, producer and trumpet and flugelhorn player. My interests span jazz, ambient, classical music, various electronic minimal works as well as experimental forms. My intention is to mash these various influences in unusual ways in an effort to discover new genres. Yes, there are only 12 notes but that doesn't mean that style and the way different approaches bounce off the culture at any particular time, is somehow moribund. There's plenty to do that's new, it simply requires an attention to art and imagination - a commitment to work that elevates and moves people instead of an impulse for a sort of emotionally empty virtuosity which seems to dominate both the musical world and the arts generally these days. I love great playing, but virtuosity must serve the art - anything else is a betrayal.
